Saga of the Soul Dungeon – 2.6

Wow. Of all the things that had happened to Caden recently this might be the most important. He had died and moved to a new world. And now… he could see what had actually been moved. He knew he had a soul, simply because his status page said so, but it was not the same as seeing it. It had been the most beautiful, intricate thing he had ever seen, and he had only scratched the surface. For this alone he wished he could go back home. How would the world change if he could show everyone that they had a soul. That there was more out there. That they were a beautiful intricate creation. For now Caden started with the basics. He got samples of everything that he could find. Crunchy crackling obsidian, grainy basalt, dusty limestone, a thousand flavors just in the variations in the stone. The water was richer, the flavors of life made an organic soup in an ever changing mixture. Continue reading “Saga of the Soul Dungeon – 2.5”

Caden looked at the countdown. Less than an hour and a half left. He looked at the flowing sewer water hesitating. He had two potentially very good options. If he followed the water to where it drained away he might find an entirely new ecosystem, plus who knew what might have floated away to be trapped there. However, going upstream was an equally good choice. Heavier objects and obstructions could yield materials he would not find below. Also, upstream would be both richer in nutrients, as well as remnants of creatures or plants from the surface. However, the closer he came to the sewer entrance the more danger of having to deal with people in some fashion. Continue reading “Saga of the Soul Dungeon – 2.2”

Caden assessed his options. He admitted that without any mana to work with they were more limited that he would like, other than spending AP. There were two skills that he had seen after some research that he really did want to buy. The problem was that he was fairly certain that the man had some idea of his skills from analysis spells. That made everything harder and, for now, he decided to hold off on buying anything. However, that did not mean he couldn’t approach the situation as intelligently as possible. The first thing he tried to do was stop everything that he was doing by instinct. He stopped the flow of mana towards him after a few minutes of trying. It felt very strange, almost akin to stopping in the middle of going pee. It felt natural to draw in mana continuously. Continue reading “Saga of the Soul Dungeon – 1.2”

When Caden found himself staring down at his own body he felt conflicted. Certainly there was the usual denial, anger, disbelief, and so on, but there was also the feeling that the moment was almost tawdry, pedantic. It felt so cliché. The scene of the scattered car wreckage and the distant sound of sirens approaching could have come from a bad movie. The world started to fade away and become bright light. It was in this moment that the cliché was disrupted. Caden felt himself yanked sideways through the world, suddenly seeing the inside and outside of car, his body, and the concrete simultaneously. He was moving in a way he did not know was possible and then reality snapped back into place. Continue reading “Saga of the Soul Dungeon – 1.1”
